Some call her Kudzu Kay as she seems to have a habit of slipping up and taking over. But, she made the right decision last week to relax Alabama’s restrictions on the Corona Virus, which are set to expire at the end of this week.
So far, the relaxed requirements appear to have been successful while many people are cautious about returning to public gatherings, work or to shop. Some small businesses have complained that the restrictions are still too onerous for them to even consider.
Alabama’s numbers never looked all that bad, but at the same time, they continue to show new cases at a steady and even slightly rising rate. Some sources have said that the numbers are deceptive simply because there was little testing early on, and the continued “smoldering” is really winding down.
My opinion is that Governor Ivey should allow all restrictions to expire at the end of this week. Evidence in Australia and Africa suggests that the virus will become near dormant this summer, and people are exercising excessive caution on a personal level in spite of the relaxed restrictions. That isn’t necessarily good.
If the virus does smolder along this summer it isn’t likely to overwhelm healthcare facilities. Reliable sources continue to say a vaccine is still more than a year away and more herd inarculation this summer might help slow the virus if it does become more aggressive and rebound with a second wave this fall.
In the mean time, I continue to be astonished at the disparity in the numbers when comparing New York to just about anywhere else. In Alabama, you are about 80 times less likely to die from the Corona Virus. Even in California, with dense population, and twice as much population as New York, people are still twenty times less likely to die from the Corona Virus.
I don’t believe for one minute that restrictions, quarantine and social distancing accounts for the huge differences. I’ve called it conspiracy and I stand by the assessment. Now it would appear the conspiracy is even more insidious than even I thought at the beginning. Politicizing a pandemic is fundamentally reprobate and yet there can be little doubt that is exactly what is occurring at face value, and then the supposed motives for a deliberate conspiracy begin to make sense.
It isn’t over yet, but I wonder if the true story will ever be told. The misinformation and the disinformation from so called authorities and experts became apparent almost from the beginning.
The demographics are still only alluded to in under-breath undertones. Manslaughter of 150,000 is heinous and cannot be ignored. In a worst case scenario next fall and winter it isn’t hard to imagine the death toll climbing to as many as 500,000 by this time next year.
This war crime should be investigated and prosecuted.
