George Floyd protesters could be seen in and around Big Spring Park on Saturday evening. At around 6:15 p.m. this group came down the sidewalk chanting “We gonna be alright…” as they were approaching. Getting my camera ready as they quieted, Honeysuckle Blue, a music act sponsored by Arts Huntsville, began performing in the plaza on the other side of Church Street, providing an interesting if unintended audio / visual presentation.

Big Spring Park was quite busy Saturday evening apparently with lingering protesters who had participated in the main rally on the downtown square earlier in the day, as well as people just out enjoying a fabulous afternoon, and of course those who came to see Honeysuckle Blue and the other acts performing downtown as part of a summer music series sponsored by Arts Huntsville.

Juneteenth – Confederate Monuments

As a native Alabamian, I am sick and tired of the perpetuation of stupidity that the damn monument represents. If you wish to honor your relative dead for more than 150 years, let it be done in Maple Hill cemetery, where this particular monument belongs.
