The parade commenced as scheduled with an amazing number of courageous onlookers braving the cold with wind chills around 20°. I staked out a vantage point between buildings where the wind wasn’t blowing quite as much while a lively crowd gathered along Jefferson Street hooten and hollering along with the wind being funneled in like it was green beer.

I thought thirty minutes would really just be the beginning and so after a little while I decided to move down the parade route and exit back around to take a look at some of the tree lights in Big Spring Park. And then – there was Santa Clause bringing up the rear!
My new beginning with live stream video today was successful but revealed some glitches causing poor video quality. This multi media presentation features Huntsville’s Veteran’s Day Parade in downtown.
Just minutes ago this Lunar Rover recreated by Polaris rolled through the streets of Huntsville beginning from the front porch of the Von Braun Civic Center and heading for the court house square !!!
When it dawned on me after a little while – it has been 18 years after all – that I not only have photos of John Glenn, but had also published the the two columns, I had to go looking in the off-line archives to find the material.
Mostly, I think some folks just need a reason to party! This photo taken just a few minutes ago is Huntsville’s first Mardi Gras parade.
