It’s seems just a little odd, but apparently in a conciliatory note based on the five officers killed in Dallas immediately after a black man was killed in St. Paul, and a another in Baton Rouge sparking the new round of protests – that Huntsville’s quickly planned vigil and march decided to go the city jail on Wheeler Ave. to pay respects to a fallen officers memorial there, instead of following their first intended march route to Big Spring Park. This photo was taken just a few minutes ago around 7:15pm.
Well, the good faith of people who are genuinely concerned about finding peaceful resolution to the inappropriate and combative use of excessive force by police officers all over this country should not be discounted.
Never-the-less, it is my opinion that municipal police departments throughout this country are suffering from deeply ingrained corruption, that often is based on classicism just as much as race, as opposed to a few bad apples here or there. Therefore, I wonder if the change in plans might be just a bit more sublimation than propriety warrants. Cop lives certainly matter, but the imbalance in perception after Dallas was clearly evidenced by some who suddenly decided there is a war – where the hell have they been already?
Huntsville and the black community are mourning the loss of civil rights pioneer Dr. Sonnie Hereford III who passed at 85 just yesterday.
