Huntsville’s old Municipal building stands in the shadow of a newer, modernized and safer replacement building. The new building is now only halfway framed out and will only be 7 stories.
The old building lingers nearby with it’s crumbling marble facade and safety barriers all around and overhead to protect from falling debris. The old 8 story building will be demolished and what will occupy that space hasn’t yet been announced.
As reconstruction of Huntsville’s downtown is undergoing a generational boom planning is also underway to tear down the courthouse also nearby. Some have suggested a park might occupy that space.
