ounds like sort of a responsive title, doesn’t it? Well, it is that time again.
I actually started making TOCC TV “responsive” long before I switched over to WordPress. I was still building pages individually, and making edits using find and replace. I did a pretty good job of building my site to be viewed on any size screen.
When I switched to WordPress, I opted to install a secondary mobile theme and switching system. It works well, but the downside is that you have to maintain two different themes per site, and you loose some of the flexibility that comes with a full theme. Two or three years ago I actually started tinkering with the theme looking at what it would take to redesign it. It’s really not that difficult, but you have to change virtually everything, and it takes a lot of time.
Well, finally the original designer of my theme, Asteroid by Ron Angelo, finally decided to update the theme to be responsive. Trouble is, in so doing he pretty much redesigned everything, all the styles and classes are different, and now there’s something called “ids.”
So, I’ve been planning to update to the new responsive style, but have been waiting until I felt I would have the time to do what has proven to be a major understaking. Even though Wrangleowe has done the preliminary work, all the styling I had previously done went down the drain, and it takes quite a lot to go through and fine tune everything the way I like it.
The upshot, and the point of this note: I haven’t yet switched over to the responsive design, but I can already see that going “live” is going to turn up some glitches, most probably for mobile phones and tablets. Several pages, including the front page, have to be redesigned, and to top it all off, I’ve found some different systems for page building that complicates the switch, even though ultimately a change in sub systems will make it easier to make a slick presentation.
As always, thank for watching TOCC TV !!!
