Bordering On Treason
Trump is dangerous, I said. Extremely dangerous. Reports and rumors continue to circulate that Trump might declare marshal law, ostensibly, to secure the southern border. I’m one that has been and continues to be in favor of legitimizing whatever immigration into this country occurs. But, this goes too far.
He’s threatened to use the insurrection act to do so, and some say that the insurrection act and marshal law are two different things. So, I read the explanations of how they are different and at least in theory they start off differently. After you look at it though, you realize once Trump is using the military to help civilian authority to quell uprising and other civil mayhem, it becomes another game of inductive semantics which Trump seems to be so good at.
Shades Of Kent State
For instance, Trump could declare sanctuary cities like Los Angeles, Atlanta, New York, Chicago, or even universities like Harvard to be engaged in an uprising in support of illegal immigration. Then, he deploys the military to help the civil authorities in those places. Except, what if the civil authority in those places is non-compliant? Then they are part of the uprising to be dealt with by the military too.
Then it would be easy enough to interfere or control elections, or suspend elections completely, in a way that would ensure the third term in office that he continues to use as a threat against the American people. He’s stated in so many words that he might take a third term as president. There is no way for that to happen constitutionally, so the only possibility is a military coup. The likes of which would be facilitated if he declares the insurrection act.
A Time For Statesmanship
I think enough is enough and pretty much everyone has had enough of Trump and his tactics. There’s nothing that couldn’t be legitimately accomplished by this president during this term without using a chainsaw and wrecking ball to overthrow U.S. government permanently.
It’s up to the Republican controlled congress to be responsible for the future of this country. The Congress must move forward to impeach Trump and remove him from office before he can leverage the military to overthrow US government – even if it means loosing their next election.
